Ever wondered how corrugated cardboard is recycled? Here’s how:
Step 1: The corrugated material is collected and then sorted based on type, size, and quality in order to streamline the recycling process.
Step 2: Once sorted, the cardboard undergoes shredding, breaking it down into smaller pieces. These pieces are then pulped, transforming them into a fibrous pulp mixture through the use of water and chemicals.
Step 3: The pulped mixture undergoes a rigorous filtering process to remove any contaminants, such as ink, adhesives, and other non-cardboard materials, ensuring the purity of the recycled pulp.
Step 4: After filtration, the refined pulp undergoes additional processing to enhance its quality and strength, preparing it for its next life as a corrugated board.
Step 5: Finally, the recycled pulp is formed into sheets and corrugated to recreate the characteristic wavy pattern. These sheets are then used to manufacture new corrugated cardboard packaging, completing the recycling loop.
